As a "bookie" (the habitual book reader's equivalent to foodie) I like to think I read books that are going to inform me, keep me enthralled, and leave me wanting more. I try a lot of books and not all are captivating or even interesting, but we power through to say "I read that." A lot of books are hard to read and some are easier, but I like not only to read a physical book but to listen to them. This is a great way to read books. As long as you're listening and don't just have it in the background while you have a full-blown conversation or are watching something on TV that will take most of your attention, listening is reading.
A lot of times, as a person who works in
libraries and with the public and always get asked what I'm reading, I have to
have a different answer every time. It only makes sense that I would
have, at least, some idea of what popular books are about without having to
look it up or read off the annotation. It's a secret tool for us.
We read many books at a time or just read them really fast. I'm on my
journey to becoming a librarian, but I have never read fast. My mom used
to tell me I had to read more to get faster at reading, but no matter how much
I read, I never read faster. So, I would find myself with long lists of
things to read for work and for school and couldn't keep up.
Normally, I'll read multiple books at a
time. One physical copy by my nightstand and one audiobook in my car and
one loaded on my cell phone. I can always keep up with the story because
like shows you watch, you always are able to keep track of who is who and doing
what where. It's a great way to get a lot of reading done.
If your local library has the option to track what you read or checkout on its catalog, then opt-in for it or track your read books on a website like Goodreads.com. I use it all the time and it's great for getting ideas of books to read because it has recommendations based on books you just finished. It has a huge following with readers adding their opinions of books they just read. I'm not affiliated with Goodreads, so this recommendation is solely word of mouth! :)
Here is a list of books I want to read soon. I will have a
list of books that are highly anticipated for 2020 in the library world
sometime in the future, but that doesn't mean this list will go away. Stay tuned for that one.
And here's what I've recently read. As you can see it is all over the place. Here's a current list.
As always I will leave you with what I am currently reading:
